Rusty Egan's Stella Career in Music

Rusty Egan has been playing a big part in the UK club scene for over 25 years as a musician and as a highly influential DJ. As well as regular appearances at high-profile gigs such as the Brit Awards and The Isle of Wight Festival, he is a music and fashion commentator for the media and plays on a weekly basis at London's best clubs and parties.Despite this hectic schedule, Rusty has found the time to come to Marbella and play a set at the After Show Party of The Millionaires' Annual White Summer Party on 30th July.Rusty's Early CareerAlthough Rusty is now best known as a DJ, he has always been a passionate musician and in fact started his career in the late 1970s as a drummer for the British New Wave band 'The Rich Kids'. This band was founded by former Sex Pistols Glen Matlock and featured Midge Ure on lead guitar and vocals, so he was immediately in good company for a successful career. He went on to form Visage with Midge Ure and Steve Strange in the late 70s and early 80s to create exciting new music for the New Romantic club scene they so loved. Visage topped the charts throughout Europe with 'Fade to Grey' and they made two successful albums.Rusty then joined Scotland's finest 'The Skids' as drummer, recording and touring the second top ten album 'Days in Europa'.DJ DaysDuring this early music career Rusty was already hosting club nights at Blitz nightclub in Great Queen Street, London, one of London's most influential clubs during the 1980s. He is credited with bringing German electronica to the British Club scene as well as almost single-handedly putting together the soundtrack for the New Romantic Movement. The success of The Blitz nightclub quickly catapulted Rusty into the limelight as a DJ and a central figure of London's nightlife. He was asked to travel around Europe to do gigs and collaborated with some of the best musicians of the time. In 1981, he opened the Camden Palace nightclub and also produced many records for the leadi ng bands of the 1980s.He continues to play on a weekly basis at many of London's top clubs and parties including Tuatara Mahiki, Kitts, Chloe and Maggies. He has played in St. Tropez, Monaco, Geneva and Verbier and every year he rocks the masses for four nights at The Isle of Wight Festival. In 2010 he joined wall of sound supremo Mark Jones at BESTIVAL for Back to the Phuture. His longevity in such a fickle industry is legendary and in 2009 this was recognised when he won the Lifetime Achievement Award in the London Club and Bar Awards.Dedicated to the music of the 70s and 80sDue to his huge influence on the UK music scene in the 70s and 80s, it's hardly surprising that he is still central in keeping this music alive in clubs and at the top festivals. He glorifies the decade between 1977 and 1987 when the magic was there and the vibe was truly great and cites the Studio 54 era as one of his greatest influences."It was our time. I believe the music, light, sound and dcor are all vital to that magic that we are all trying to create. It is fantastic that people are discovering once again the music that inspired a generation of DJ's."Rusty will be opening the Isle of Wight Festival with The Blitz Club on Thursday 9th June. This gig includes DJ sets from Rusty Egan, but also live performances from both ABCand Boy George. I'm afraid that this is now sold out, however there is another chance to see Rusty this summer, this time in Marbella. He will be playing a set of "Studio 54" 70s dancefloor fillers at The Millionaires' Annual White Summer Party in Marbella on July 30th. This event will be a glamorous garden party with a seated concert featuring Maxine Barrie and Stephen Triffitt singing the classic songs of Shirley Bassey and Frank Sinatra. This will be followed by an after show party where Rusty will be getting everyone up and dancing alongside the fabulous Barry White Experience with Eric Conley.
