Culver City

Culver City is one of the largest communities to border the city of Los Angeles. It's known for its many studios and famous movies and television shows that have been made in those studios. It's also one of those more racially diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles County. The city was founded by Harry Culver in 1913 and incorporated in 1917. A year later, the first film studio was built, and many more studios followed. It's the present home of Sony Pictures Studios. Many movies have been made here, and much of the area of Culver City has ended up in productions as well. Some of these include: The Wizard of Oz; Gone with the Wind; Citizen Kane; the original King Kong; Grease; Raging Bull; E.T.; City Slickers; and Air Force One. TV shows made here include: Las Vegas; Mad About You; Lassie; Batman; The Andy Griffith Show; and Jeopardy. Areas of the city were in the movies Grease, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Wonder Years, CHiPs, The Aviator, Bewitched (the movie), and Fun with Dick and Jane.Culver City likes to consider itself an arts and culture center. There's the annual music festival held in the City Hall Courtyard. There's the Corey Helford Gallery, which has many exhibits of modern art, and other art galleries such as the Wonderful World Art Gallery, the de Soto Gallery, and that MODAA Gallery. There's public art all over the city, including the Hanging Gardens, La Ballona, and a lot of paintings and print in the Dan Patacchia Room at City Hall. A lot of art and sculpture is all over the city, especi ally downtown. There are numerous performing arts centers also, including the Kirk Douglas Theater, the Culver City Chamber Orchestra, and the Pacifico Dance Company. Other landmarks include the Veterans Memorial Building, the King Fahd Mosque, and the Heritage Fountain at Culver City Hall. There are also lots of tours offered around Culver City. There's a tour of downtown Culver City, with lots of restaurants, shopping, and landmark buildings. There's a bus tour of the neighborhoods of the area. And there's the Sony Pictures Museum and a tour of the Sony Studios lot also. Not only that, but many of the TV shows that are filmed here offer free tickets for guests to be members of the audience.Strangely enough, it's hard to find any celebrities living in Culver City. That's probably the combination of both being too close to work and not feeling secure enough to live in such a tourist attraction area. It probably explains why housing is reasonable in the area. Sure, there are s ome million dollar homes, but the median price for homes in the area is around $450,000, with some homes as low as $125,000. And there are plenty of lease opportunities as well.
